Let's talk money
Hey guys. Unfortunately, we haven't seen the red light, and I finally stopped singing The Police song Roxanne in my head after yesterday's comments - until I just mentioned it now. The jurors are still in there. I'm trying to decide if they will come back today or not. If they are going through every single piece of evidence, they got about 190 pieces yesterday, that could take a while. So, I was wondering, well all the media has, what kind of money these jurors are making. And the intelligent Kristen Hampton with Channel 3 went and asked. Here's what was discovered on the North Carolina Courts Web site:
Jurors make $12 a day on day 1. $20 days 2 through 5. Day 6 and after, they make $40 a day. If you count up the days from June 8 (skipping July 4), the jurors have been here 28 days. Each has made $992. Counting all 16 jurors (remember the four alternates are still here), that brings the total to $15,872. It's actually going to be higher than that because they also get paid each day they are here for jury selection. So, easily more than $16,000 spent on jurors since May 14. But, I would say most people make more than $40 a day, unless you are retired (which I think one or two are) or in college (which one, maybe two are) or unemployed (I don't know about that one). Food for thought...

I agree with JM. Most people make more than $40.00 a day. Think of all the stress they are probably going through. I am sure $40 isn't enough. I wouldn't want to be in that room making a decision like this.
Most people that work get what is called jury duty make up pay . What that does is make up the difference for there regular pay .
True, I didn't think of that. Regardless of their pay I don't they are dragging this out for the $. I seen in some previous post by others, stating the jurors were dragging it out for the $ and food.
No i also doubt they are dragging it out for money . I know i wouldn't !
True...
I don't believe anyone would WANT to be put through this type of pressure and inconvenience for a few bucks and some fast food...
However, I have been surprised before by folks and would not doubt that there are some who would lap the attention up like milk !
Have any of you ever been on a jury that tried someone for murder?
Do the math, it's simple, $40 divided by 8 equals $5 per hour. Let me see now; is that less than minimum wage? Aha, it is, and on top of that you have to be placed in a room with 11 other people,(some of who), have a life to live and would rather be anywhere but stuck in that room.
Sure there are ways to get out of jury duty but it is our responsibility as citizens to perform it when called upon by your county, so for goodness sake people stop trying to say that the jurors are stalling for pay and food. Do ya'll really believe that?
I have lived on Dry Pond Rd for most of my 62 years on this earth and I didn't even know JA or EA and had never heard of them until this case came about. I'm still not sure why the defense seemed to think that they had to have a change of venue to get a jury that wouldn't be prejudice or who had not been exposed.
I've been reading this blog and the comments that ya'll make to each other and I want to say that there are very few of you who haven't made up their minds about whether Jerry is guilty or not guilty. I want to remind all of you that Jesus says, "Judge not lest ye be judged". The only ones who have the right to say are the 12 people in that room and it doesn't seem as if they can decide either.
Easy there Larry, Noone here stated that they were enjoying the pay or food. I simply said that it probably isn't enough pay. I wouldn't want to be in that room. Too much Stress. I do agree with you on judging people. Only The Lord has the right to do that.
Larry: Oh Ya! Please be Careful on using the word "Ya'll". I have said nothing out of the way.
However, most employers compensate a juror's full wages if they give them their jury duty check in return.
I know, I served as foreman of a jury. I got paid as if I was still at work. It was easy money.
He had 4.5 million reasons to murder her!!! If found not guilty he will walk with the money.
