Prosecution may be done by Thursday
Here was something I thought was surprising. The prosecution did not re-direct. When Dubs finished her questions of Stafford at 4:50 this afternoon, Bellas had no further questions. I thought surely after all Stafford testified to today on cross-examination, Bellas would want to ask more questions to explain some things. I guess not. Or maybe he didn't want the defense to have a chance to ask any further questions. Oh well.
So this afternoon basically was just a recap of all the information we heard today. Dubs asked Stafford again about the conversation he had with Jerry on Jan. 18. Again, Stafford said Jerry said he did not kill Emily. Even though Stafford said he knew Emily died on the farm; he knew someone who knew Emily had killed her; and he had a pretty good idea who killed her. Still, Jerry told Stafford he wasn't going to tell him what he wanted to hear.
Stafford also said, as he himself said, he has admitted about a dozen times today, that there were things he should have done in this investigation that he did not do. Hindsight is 20/20, he said.
Bellas said he believes the prosecution will be done by Thursday afternoon. He has one, maybe two more witnesses to call. I believe those will be Keith Keen, tow truck operator, and Pat Thorpe, Emily's best friend from New Jersey. We'll see Thursday. Remember, we are off tomorrow. Everyone enjoy the holiday. I'll be back Thursday a.m.

Good Post Craig. The only way we have it wrong is if JM has been biased to the defense in her daily recaps.( I don't see how and I don't think she is , but I'm reaching for the sake of discussion). The other angle here is the jury. People who feed dogs beer, cheat on their spouses, lie, and pray, get put on juries every day. It's not over 'til the fat lady sings.

Who's on trial Jerry Anderson or Caldwell County law enforcement??? Anderson needs to take the stand!
Red Wasp.. Jerry is on trial.. but Caldwell County is too. There are two sides to every story.. Jerry's side.. and Caldwell County's side. If Caldwell county can make accusations.. Jerry Anderson has a Constitutional right to defend himself. Soldiers are dying every day to protect our system of government. Why would you want to minimize the valor of those troops by undermining the United States Justice system. Jerry does not have to testify.. and he probably won't. The tone of your post suggests that if Jerry would testify.. we might be able to get him to incriminate himself. The Constitution of the United States says that a defendent doesn't have to take the stand. It will be up to his lawyers to make the decision on whether or not he testifys.
I'll bet you're one of those people who has "Support Our Troops" bumper stickers on all your cars.. Only that's just a fad to people like you.. You don't really support the United States and all it stands for. You'd rather execute people based on your own humble opinions.. not the system that's made our country the greatest in the world.
Have a Happy Fourth of July.
Just watchin, Wow!!! Hit a nerve didn't I! You inaccurately read a lot into my 16 word - 2 sentence statement. Most innocent people would want to personally defend themselves by taking the stand.
fyi -- No bumper stickers on my car.
I agree with redwasp. Anderson needs to testify. The jurors need more information concerning what Jerry was doing, instead of what law enforcement was doing or not doing.
Over and over you people miss the point. Yeah Waspdog..you hit a nerve. I have close family in Iraq... risking his life each and every day so people back in the states can sit back and postulate on what they think they know, throwing dirt into the face of our great country by picking and choosing which parts of our system you want to live by.
Once more for the people in special ed... THE CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES says that a person doesn't have to take the stand. You think because he's innocent he would want to get on the stand and defend himself.. to whom I ask you?? The prosecutors that didn't listen to him or the evidence when they arrested him? The slouches who twisted everything he said during an impossible time? Compelling evidence for the prosecution so far has been "He didn't act right". Why on earth would he subject himself to more of their accusations? So the prosecution can say.. See.. He's acting funny!
You guys want him on the stand so you can once again sit back on your pedestals and postulate on whether the way he's acting makes him guilty. You want him on the stand for your own entertainment.. not for justice.
Justwatchin- Why is it when someone disagrees with you that you have to attack them personally? If they anger you, show some class by responding in a dignified manner.
Just watching, I'm wondering why you are being so argumenative about his taking the stand or not, just downright bigotted.
I to think only he can answer some things that have been testified to.
The first thing is why the tractor
was in that field, where did Mrs. Anderson go from there, since it was heard by a reliable witness.
And the oil filters, by his call I would expect that he didn't have filters, yet they were changed that day. As business person I could produce a receipt for any business expense I incurred.
Who will answer these questions but Mr. Anderson?
Thank you, Purple Dog and James.
Just watchin, why are you so argumentative and filled with negative put-downs? The comment about Special Ed, I'm stunned that anyone would make such a hurtful comment, regarding such a sensitive and caring segment of the population.
Thank goodness, the vast majority of people in our great country (and on this blog) are respectful and kind human beings, treating others with dignity and respect ... even when we disagree.
Purplepup..I think the fifth ammendment is pretty clear..a person doesn't have to be a witness against himself. I'm just defending the constitution.. not my own views. As far as having some class.. I'm a redneck plain and simple. I carry a gun, own a dog, and a big truck. This isn't the first time I've ever put in my two cents on a blog. It's a mean world out there on the internet. Take it or leave it.
James.. Purplepup will accuse me of being mean if I tell you what I think of your post. But then again.. I already explained myself several times. I don't give a rats behind if Jerry testifies, is found innocent, or is found guilty. But I do care about due process... and James.. it takes a bigot to know a bigot.
Yes, we on the blog are now convinced that you are the epitome of mean an spiteful. Now that we have that settled , please stop the rude, crude language and discuss this trial sagaciously.
What do you not understand about the way the judicial works????....Jerry does not have to prove his innocence, the state has to prove his guilt....Plain and simple...Testifying is not part of that process unless the defendant feels the need to against his/her lawyers advice...In Jerry's case the keystone cops have made it easy for him not too.....Thanks
Purplepup.. I'm crying in my beer over the loss of your love here. All your last post proves is that you can't keep up on a heated intelligent coversation. You cry foul because you can't think of anyhting else to say. At least I'm not going to the dictionary to find vainglorious words to post.. sagatious indeed!!
Let's get back to my defense of the Contstitution!
I understand quite well that he does not have to take the stand. Yes the police have made terrible mistakes but there are facts that leave questions unanswered. Will his defense leave the testimony of Mr. Wilson hearing the machinery, Mr. Reyes driving Mr. Anderson to the top of the road with a trashbag and the dates on the oil filters to chance? I guess we will have to wait for the defense.
I believe you meant to say a thesaurus. By the way, you spelled anything incorrectly.
If I who, who didn't know the people involved, have these questions after reading the testimony have these questions, could the jury not also.
I don't think the compelling evidence is his demeanor, but the testimony that the tractor was where the Hispanic worker said it was.
I don't have a dog in this fight,
You talk about serving your country, BUD, I did.
That same constitiution gives me the same right to express what I think even if I am Special ED.
Nah.. I meant dictionary.. didn't want to confuse you.
As for the questions still outstanding.. ummm where do I even start? You have a "few" questions and the prosecution could rest on Thursday. Shouldn't we be thinking "guilty" at this juncture in the trial?? My guess is that your questions will be addressed in the coming weeks. The prosecution took a "day in the life of a farmer" and dissected it and turned it into suspicion of murder.
And James.. I ate my share of Kimchi..
Ist Cav, You? I don't want to get in a pissing contest with another vet, but you come off as know it all.
As for the kimchi , never knew anyone who ate that, except the ROK Army.
I haven't made my mind up about Anderson's guilty or innocence, just commenting on the evidence and what I think.
It being July the 4th it should be a happy day for all. But not in Caldwell County , North Carolina...We all feel sorry for Emily's family and for Jerry and his family as well. At no time during this trail has the State proved anything against Jerry Anderson.. The very inexperience of the Detectives that were handling the case is beyond anybodies believe. Does anyone know the experience of any of these guys and gals before they were detectives????? JM keep doing what you have been doing for the past month or so, You have done a wonderful job.
Thanks redwasp for addressing the special ed issue with justwatchin .. there's no place for that kind of talk .. anytime, anywhere.
